CSEC SBA Changes: What Students Need to Know
How to read your syllabus requirements, plan your SBA timeline and avoid the mistakes that cost the easiest marks.

Always confirm current SBA requirements with your teacher and the official syllabus for your subject and exam year — requirements are revised periodically. What does not change is how marks are lost.
Read the mark scheme before you write
Your SBA is marked against specific criteria with specific weightings. Write directly to those headings instead of producing an essay and hoping it fits.
Where students lose easy marks
- Aims and objectives that are vague or unmeasurable.
- A method section that describes what happened instead of how it was done.
- Data presented without any interpretation.
- Missing appendices: instruments, raw data, consent.
- Formatting, referencing and word-count breaches.
Build a timeline
Work backwards from the submission date: topic and aims, instrument, data collection, analysis, draft, review, final. Students who start collecting data late almost always submit weak analysis.
