CSEC, explained properly
CSEC is the secondary-school exit qualification set by the Caribbean Examinations Council and taken across most of the English-speaking Caribbean. For most subjects the assessment combines a multiple-choice paper, a structured or essay paper, and a School-Based Assessment — with an alternative paper for private candidates.
How the assessment is built
Knowing what each paper rewards changes how you revise for it.
01
Paper 1
Multiple choice, covering the full breadth of the syllabus. Speed and coverage matter more than depth.
02
Paper 2
Structured questions or essays. This is where method, working and written reasoning earn marks.
03
School-Based Assessment
Coursework completed during the school year in most subjects. Private candidates normally sit an alternative paper instead.
